Michael Butler vs. Anvil – Hairbangers Ball Interview

February 11, 2010 By: mbutler Category: Blog

On Saturday Feb 6, 2010 , I interviewed Anvil at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco. They’ve been touring pretty much non-stop since the documentary “The Story of Anvil” came out. I brought along Eddie Daroza, who ran the camera for me.
Thanks to super producer Shane Chisholm and Julie Ark for lining up the interview for me.

It’s that time of year. The time of the Best Of list. In this week’s Top 5 Music Countdown, we’re revealing the best albums of 2009, IHHO (In Heather’s Humble Opinion), NATCH.

5. Miike Snow
“Miike Snow”

Swedish + existential & metaphysical lyrics. Gotta have my synths!

4. Fever Ray
“Fever Ray”

Creepy vocals + dense electronica = just like I like it.

3. The Dead Weather
“Horehound”

Electric rock and funky backbeats. No bias here. This album/collaboration is one of the best from this year.

2. The xx
“xx”

Minimal and sexy. Pretty much how I live, nutshelled.

1. Florence + the Machine
“Lungs”

Gothic vocals + gorgeous instrumentation. Florence (speaking about her music) says: “I want my music to sound like throwing yourself out of a tree, or off a tall building, or as if you’re being sucked down into the ocean and you can’t breathe.”

Happy New Year!!!

Rose Tattoo Tribute, Dollyrots Acoustic and Weight Loss

December 23, 2009 By: mbutler Category: Blog

Good day friends. Normally on Wed. we start the music lineup with an episode of the MeVIO Underground, our live acoustic music show. Today is slightly different. We have some bills to pay so I start the channel off with a Nutrisystem host endorsement. If you need to lose weight, give it a try. Some of the nerds here at MeVIO are on Nutrisystem and it seems to be working for them. And we can save you some money on it too if you go to nutrisystem.com/mvmusic
Next up I pay tribute to Mick Cocks, guitarist for Rose Tattoo who passed away yesterday from liver cancer. He was a great guitarist and I’ve never heard a bad word spoken of him. If you are not familiar with the pure rock n roll greatness that is Rose Tattoo, do yourself a favor and get their entire catalog. They are the real thing, friends. I play the video for Black Eyed Bruiser on the tribute as well.
After that, we have The Dollyrots in studio for a fantastic acoustic set that includes 2 new songs, so I guess that qualifies as an exclusive. They were really nice people and play some of the catchiest punk rock you will ever hear. They came down while they were in San Francisco during a west coast tour. They also did an interview with Jackie and Martina while they were here. That will be posted on MeVIO soon.
All that and much more stuff on MeVIO Music today including some Rock News from my friend Share at Rock n Roll TV and a bunch of Holiday Gift Guides.

You can watch it all right here. Just hit play on the video player at the top of this post.

Speaking of Holiday Gifts, get some new Converse from Eastbay.com and save some money by using our codes:

4.  “When I Grow Up
[dir. Martin de Thurrah]

Karin Dreijer Andersson (The Knife) hardly lacks imagination – a harlequin dancing on a diving board over a dirty pool? She somehow pulls off weird without pretension.

Exploding heads are cool! P. Daughters is unquestionably following in Michel Gondry’s quirky footsteps!

2.  “The Reeling
[dir. Hydra (John Hobbs, Ariel Danziger, Sam Stephens)]

-Passion Pitpassionpit

A bit too “disco” for me at times, but dig that ripped magazine effect.

This video is my #1 because it involves two of my favorite things: New York City and nudity! (It just sounds good, OK?)
