Listen to “Ice In The Loveliest Veins”, here:

Long Island indie rockers, My Summer, just self-released their highly anticipated new full-length album, “Ice In The Loveliest Veins”, on July 2nd, 2011. In response to the albums immediate success the band is giving away a song for free!

ormed in 2005 by Mike Longo (guitar, vocals) and Joe Lambiaso (drums), My Summer quickly established themselves as a staple of New York’s indie rock scene, picking up band members Dave Ferrara (guitar) and Joe Gruber (bass) along the way. Before year’s end, they released their first EP and began building up a following along the East Coast with their mix of upbeat guitar-driven rock balanced by melodic, jazzy interludes. In Fall 2006, the band released their first full-length, Catch Fire.

My Summer’s self-titled sophomore release debuted in November 2009. The album highlights the band’s ability to synthesize a range of influences. Songs like “What Your Worth” and “Seething Soul” captured My Summer’s upbeat, yet aggressive sound, while “Wake Up” and “Through the War”, reveal a subtle thread of indie-pop. The record grabbed industry attention and the band found themselves featured on Fearless Radio, New Music Inferno, Eat Sleep Breath Music, PopTimes, AltSounds, The Sound Alarm and The Dave & Glenn Show.

So far 2011 has proved to be the year of My Summer and with this new release, it’s clear their success has only just begun.

Paul Sicilian and Gabriel Wurzel first crossed paths as freshmen at a central Connecticut high school. The two soon began playing together in bands, squeezing some excitement out of the endless Tuesday that is CT. The pair went to Skidmore College, where they continued to write music. There they were introduced to fellow student and musician Willie Miesmer. Within two years of graduating all three moved to Brooklyn, NY where they reconnected and began playing together, often swapping instruments and experimenting with loop pedals and samplers. The chemistry was instant. They continue to deconstruct and reinvent their sound while maintaining a mutual love for melody and space. Their debut five song EP No Service, recorded and produced by Jake Aron (Jamie Lidell, Yeasayer, Chairlift) and mixed at the Rare Book Room by Nicolas Vernhes (Dirty Projectors, Deerhunter, Silver Jews) is forthcoming September 21, 2010 on Famous Class Records.

Musical Tribute to John Hughes

Category: Blog, News · 0

So it is with a sad heart that I pay tribute to seminal 80′s director John Hughes who passed away this week from a heart attack at the age of 59.

To a kid growing up in the 1980′s, a John Hughes movie was gift. He had a way of talking to teens that didn’t talk down to them. One of the best things about his movies were the great music that he had on the soundtracks. So I thought that I would pay tribute to his great movies by picking some of my favorite songs from his 80′s movies. Check after the break to see my picks.

Sixteen Candles (1984 Universal Picture):
The Thompson Twins – If You Were Here:

The Breakfast Club (1985 Universal Pictures):
Simple Minds – Don’t You Forget About Me:

Weird Science (1985 Universal Pictures):
Oingo Boingo – Weird Science:

Pretty In Pink (1986 Paramount Pictures) – Produced by Hughes:
The Psychodelic Furs – Pretty In Pink

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986 Paramount Pictures):
Yello – Oh Yeah

Uncle Buck (1989 Universal Picture):
Young M.C. – Bust A Move:

I hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane. This weekend, why don’t you go have a John Hughes movie marathon in honor of one of the greatest directors of the 80′s.

Ace Frehley – Anomaly Release Date

Category: Blog, News · 0

Original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley will release his fifth solo album, “Anomaly”, on September 15 via his own Bronx Born Records.
The CD was produced and recorded in Westchester County, New York between 2007 and 2009 and was mixed in Los Angeles.
Ace claims that the new record will be a lot like his first solo album.
In an early 2008 interview with Billboard, Frehley stated about the CD, “Basically, I’m trying to get back into the mindset I was in when I did my first solo record [1978's 'Ace Frehley']. That record seemed to have all the elements everybody liked — a real cool instrumental, a hit single, some real heavy rockers, a nice variety of different genres of music.”
