MNDR (pronounced “mandar”) consists of Amanda Warner and Peter Wade. They are a an electronic music duo, formed in 2009 in New York City.

In 2008, Warner moved from Oakland, Ca. to New York city to work as a songwriter for hire. Eventually she met Wade, and that meeting decided to think about fronting an act herself. The duo uploaded four tracks to Myspace in 2009, which would eventually be turned into their debut EP: E. P.E. They are currently working on a full length album that will hopefully be released sometime in 2011.

The duo re-recorded the song “Fade To Black” from E. P.E. on the fake language of Simlish, and is featured in the video game The Sims3: High-End Loft Stuff.

MNDR’s official Green Label Sound single “Cut Me Out” now has a video that is equally impressive! Director Tim Saccenti and Amanda Warner (MNDR) combined their creativity to give a visual complement to the song’s emotion and lyrics. Tim’s team used Kinect technology to capture the images, and then manipulated the data into what you see in the final product (watch the behind the scenes video). This unique technique yields an incredible digital aesthetic that expresses the nature of the track. Listening to Robert Randolph’s new album We Walk This Road (out everywhere June 21st), most listeners would assume that the acclaimed steel guitar player had been steeped in traditional blues, gospel, and soul sounds from the earliest days. But surprisingly (especially for a musician renowned for his instinctive power and feeling), Randolph turns out to have come to a lot of this music later in life, in some cases under the guidance and tutelage of famed producer and walking Music History Book, T Bone Burnett. Over the two years recording the album, the crew listened to ancient numbers from the 20s and 30s, music in the public domain and the collective memory of roots, until something hopped out and revealed itself to be pre-ordained. The process was simple: bring volumes upon volumes of tunes into the studio and just dig. According to Randolph, “I was only allowed to listen to modern Christian and gospel music growing up, so there was so much I didn’t know about. My mind is expanded now. The record is finished and I still feel as if I’m not done. I’ve spent over $5,000 on iTunes in the past eighteen months just catching up.”

Which basically proves the central premise of We Walk This Road: there’s a thread that runs through the past century of roots, blues, soul, gospel, you name it, that any music fan has an innate understanding of. That’s the gift of discovery that Randolph shares with his listeners across the entirety of We Walk This Road. In essence, the album is a highly personal, walking tour through the past one hundred years of African-American music, as experienced and understood by Robert Randolph, his band and the handful of friends lucky enough to join him. Like Leon Russell, who played piano on the album-closing “Salvation,” or Ben Harper, who played six string and sang on Blind Willie Johnson’s “If I Had My Way.” Throughout the album, Randolph’s trademark “Sacred Steel” guitar shines on tracks from traditionals to versions of songs from Bob Dylan (“Shot of Love”), John Lennon (“I Don’t Wanna Be A Soldier Mama”), and even Prince (“Walk Don’t Walk”).

The group has been touring the United States since the release of their latest album, “Lost Souls Like Us,” was released on March 2, 2010.  “Lost Souls Like Us” debuted on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart at #15, the Billboard Indie Albums Chart at #50 and at #76 on the Billboard Current Digital Albums Chart.  On iTunes, the album hit #5 on the Rock Chart and was Top 30 on iTunes in overall sales week of release.  Since the release of the album, the band has been touring as a four-piece featuring founding group members Benjy Davis and Mic Capdevielle and two touring musicians who round out the line-up.  Their summer and early fall dates see them visiting the East, South, and Midwest, and include shows with labelmates Sister Hazel and Ingram Hill, as well as a show with Shooter Jennings and Corey Smith.  (See list of tour dates below.)

While still only in their twenties, Irish trio Kopek have a history that stretches back a decade.
Drummer Shane Cooney and bassist Brad Kinsella grew up as next-door neighbors in Dublin.
The first singer who answered their ad in a local musician’s magazine turned out to be the golden
voiced Daniel Jordan and from there Kopek was born.   Look for the band to release their US
debut White Collar Lies digitally on June 29 on Religion via SIN/SonyMusic Independent Network.

Early gigs in and around Dublin included many a battle of the bands contests, which the trio won
with studied regularity.   Contest spoils were often in the form of equipment, which gave the new
band an even bigger leg up on the competition. “The first thing we won was a backline and we’ve
never had to buy any gear since,” the lucky drummer adds.  From 2002 to 2009 Kopek toured
relentlessly, and continued to win competitions. Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and multiple U.S.
visits were all ticked off the list. Mid-decade the band decamped to Amsterdam for a year of work
side by side in a greenhouse – “Dutch flowers, all that shit” – during the day, and rehearsals at night,
even scoring free studio space and an offer of a Swiss tour from local musician friends.  In 2005 Kopek
won the contest that would keep them in guitar strings for life (almost). Best Live Act at the Global
Battle Of The Bands (gbob.com) earned them $100,000, a world tour, and one assumes a hell of a
lot of fun.

One thing that was eluding Kopek, however, was a partnership that could help bring them to a worldwide
music buying audience. In 2009 Dublin based record company Religion entered the picture, and signed
the band to a large multi-album deal. With guidance, help and production from Glenn Herlihy, and
mastermind mixer Tom Lord-Alge, Kopek’s debut album, White Collar Lies was born.

White Collar Lies is a bracing dose of heartfelt and expertly performed modern rock. Jordan’s voice rips
through the speakers, carried aloft by the twin engines of Cooney and Kinsella. “Love Is Dead,” the first
single, is a swaggering, fist-pumping ode to the band’s first love, music.

To call Kopek a return to rock & roll brilliance would be the minimum praise deserved of a band that has
definitely put in their 10,000 hours. For Kopek, success is not only deserved, but mathematically inevitable.
