Happy Birthday Joe Perry

September 10, 2009 By: mbutler Category: Blog

Today is one of my favorite rock heros’ birthday today. Joe Perry from Aerosmith. He has a new Joe Perry Project record titled “Have Guitar Will Travel” coming out on Oct. 6th. I’ll be going to see him at the Viper Room on that night. In honor of the great Joe Perry’s birthday, here is an episode of Hairbangers Ball, where I pull out a vintage Joe Perry Project video from my vaults.

Joe Perry Project Release Date for “Have Guitar Will Travel”

August 04, 2009 By: mbutler Category: Blog, News

According to Dean Goodman from Reuters, Joe Perry has set the title of his new CD as “Have Guitar Will Travel”, which he hopes will be out in November.
In what is even better news, Perry, who sings on four of the tracks, also expects to tour early next year under the guise of the Joe Perry Project.
His first three solo albums, all credited to the Joe Perry Project, were released in the early 1980s when he briefly quit Aerosmith during the most drug fueled time of the band’s carreer.
If you don’t have those first 3 Joe Perry Project records, GO GET THEM!

More Aerosmith Tour Problems

July 14, 2009 By: mbutler Category: Blog, News

First, Brad Whitford sits out the beginning of the Aerosmith Tour after he hurts his head getting out of his Ferrari. Then Steven Tyler pulls a muscle in his leg and has to postpone a bunch of shows. ( They are still waiting for him to return as I write this).

Now, AEROSMITH bassist TOM HAMILTON will be sitting out some dates of the Guitar Hero Aerosmith
Presents Aerosmith tour dates with special guests ZZ Top as he recuperates from non-invasive surgery. Filling in for TOM will be David Hull, a longtime friend of the band who played in the Joe Perry Project and who sat in for TOM on various shows in 2006. When STEVEN TYLER, JOE PERRY, AND JOEY KRAMER return to the road on July 15 at Lakewood Amphitheatre in Atlanta, GA, they’ll be welcoming back BRAD WHITFORD, who has recovered from a recent surgery after having sat out the opening dates of the tour.

This tour is cursed. I can’t help but think the band is done. Bring on the Joe Perry Project!

Aerosmith Cancels Shows Due To Ailing Singer

July 04, 2009 By: mbutler Category: Blog

According to Reuters blog, Aerosmith has been forced to cancel at least 3 shows on their current tour with ZZ Top.
In the latest development singer Steven Tyler, 61, has been hobbled by an unspecified injury, putting the kibosh on Cincinnati (July 1), Hershey, Pa. (July 3) and Virginia Beach, Va. (July 5).

Guitarist Joe Perry sent out a Twitter message on Friday expressing “sincere apologies,” and asking fans to pray for Tyler’s speedy return. “It really bums me out too — you have no idea,” he said.

Aerosmith’s Joe Perry Says they May Play Night In The Ruts on current Tour

June 23, 2009 By: mbutler Category: Blog

Dean Goodman of www.reuters.com reports that back in their youthful heyday, the members of Aerosmith indulged in every sort of hedonistic pursuit backstage after their concerts. These days, they head straight to the tour bus and surf the Web to see what their fans thought about the show, says lead guitarist Joe Perry.

The feedback is important in the early stages of a tour, such as the one that began last Wednesday in St. Louis, as the band struggles to regain match form after a 20-month absence from the stage.

“They don’t hold anything back,” Perry said of the comments on sites such as the official Web site, aeroforceone.com. “It’s a lot of fun to read it. Some of it isn’t so much fun, but it still gives you good feedback… We can take care of the technical stuff and what we expect out of ourselves, but the most important thing is how it affects the fans.”

The band has been playing one album from top to bottom on this tour. For the first two weeks it will be 1976’s “Toys In The Attic“. So far the only song not played from that album is “You See Me Crying” (my favorite song on the record). Joe Perry says that this one is too difficult for Steven Tyler to sing so soon on the tour, at least until his throat gets into shape. There are rumors that they will be playing “Rocks” in its entirety soon on the tour.

But what Perry really wants to do is exhume is the unloved 1979 album “Night in the Ruts,” recorded during the band’s lengthy, drug-fueled nadir. Perry plays on only some of the tracks because he left the band before the album was released.
