Listen to “Ice In The Loveliest Veins”, here:

Long Island indie rockers, My Summer, just self-released their highly anticipated new full-length album, “Ice In The Loveliest Veins”, on July 2nd, 2011. In response to the albums immediate success the band is giving away a song for free!

ormed in 2005 by Mike Longo (guitar, vocals) and Joe Lambiaso (drums), My Summer quickly established themselves as a staple of New York’s indie rock scene, picking up band members Dave Ferrara (guitar) and Joe Gruber (bass) along the way. Before year’s end, they released their first EP and began building up a following along the East Coast with their mix of upbeat guitar-driven rock balanced by melodic, jazzy interludes. In Fall 2006, the band released their first full-length, Catch Fire.

My Summer’s self-titled sophomore release debuted in November 2009. The album highlights the band’s ability to synthesize a range of influences. Songs like “What Your Worth” and “Seething Soul” captured My Summer’s upbeat, yet aggressive sound, while “Wake Up” and “Through the War”, reveal a subtle thread of indie-pop. The record grabbed industry attention and the band found themselves featured on Fearless Radio, New Music Inferno, Eat Sleep Breath Music, PopTimes, AltSounds, The Sound Alarm and The Dave & Glenn Show.

So far 2011 has proved to be the year of My Summer and with this new release, it’s clear their success has only just begun.

Shonen Knife have been the most internationally recognized name in Japanese Rock music since their entrance onto the alternative rock scene in the early 90s when them became the indie darlings of hipsters and rock stars alike. Since their inception in Osaka in 1981 (featuring Naoko’s sister Atsuko and their friend, bassist/vocalist Michie), to their current lineup featuring members Ritsuko (bass, vocals) and Emi (drums, vocals), Shonen Knife have maintained their rightful place in the ever changing indie rock scene.

For celebration, we decided to record a cover album of our favorite band the Ramones. The title is Osaka Ramones with our respect. MNDR “Cut Me Out” Music Video

Category: New Releases · 0

MNDR (pronounced “mandar”) consists of Amanda Warner and Peter Wade. They are a an electronic music duo, formed in 2009 in New York City.

In 2008, Warner moved from Oakland, Ca. to New York city to work as a songwriter for hire. Eventually she met Wade, and that meeting decided to think about fronting an act herself. The duo uploaded four tracks to Myspace in 2009, which would eventually be turned into their debut EP: E. P.E. They are currently working on a full length album that will hopefully be released sometime in 2011.

The duo re-recorded the song “Fade To Black” from E. P.E. on the fake language of Simlish, and is featured in the video game The Sims3: High-End Loft Stuff.

MNDR’s official Green Label Sound single “Cut Me Out” now has a video that is equally impressive! Director Tim Saccenti and Amanda Warner (MNDR) combined their creativity to give a visual complement to the song’s emotion and lyrics. Tim’s team used Kinect technology to capture the images, and then manipulated the data into what you see in the final product (watch the behind the scenes video). This unique technique yields an incredible digital aesthetic that expresses the nature of the track. So check out the video and don’t forget to download the official Green Label Sound single “ Cut Me Out ” and the Hervé remix for free right now!

Bottle Up and Go Offer Up a Free B-Side

Category: Free Music, On Tour · 0

mp3:“That’s How Strong My Love Is

http://www.myspace.com/bottleupandgoband

Officially now a three piece, Bottle Up & Go has tightened up and grown new muscle.  BU&G continue to pursue innovation through destruction, their raw performances leaving guttered candles and blood in their wake. After a brief hiatus and a productive writing season in the foothills of rural Oregon, the band is back and better than ever.

Comprised of Keenan Mitchell on Guitar, Fareed Sajan on Drums,  and Andrew Carrico on Baritone Saxophone, BU&G brings their serious dose of psychedelic garage blues to Glasslands on Wednesday August 18th for the NAG Benefit (http://www.nag-brooklyn.org/). All proceeds will benefit the local community planning and environmental justice organization.. BU&G will be showcasing new material from a forthcoming release they are finishing up in the studio this month.   Headlining the show is Titus Andronicus; having just performed on the “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” show (http://pitchfork.com/news/39673-watch-titus-andronicus-crash-fallon/), and gearing up for a tour with Free Energy, this intimate performance is sure to sell out and not to be missed.

Teaming up again with producer Jake Aron (Jamie Lidell, Grizzly Bear, Yeasayer) BU&G are offering a free unreleased B-side, a cover of O. V. Wright’s “That’s How Strong My Love Is.”  Recorded spontaneously in the middle of a rainstorm, it features just Keenan and Andrew. While a departure from their usual percussive tales of murder, morning tremors, and jail time, it doesn’t sacrifice the band’s trademark ragged intensity. It is an intimate look at the inner workings of a band whose live show is characterized by raucous, livewire ferocity.

Tour Dates:
08/18 – Brooklyn. NY – Glasslands w/ Titus Andronicus
09/29 – Brooklyn, NY – Glasslands w/ The Sundelles, Shark?

Les Savy Fav Album Leaked, Responds with A Paypal Donation Page

Category: Blog, Free Music, New Releases, News · 0

Les Savy Fav’s new single, Let’s Get Out of Here, is available as a free download. Their new release, Root For Ruin, is available August 3rd on Frenchkiss Records. It was originally scheduled for a Sept 14 release but the album was leaked. Les Savy Fav responded by setting up a Paypal account to accept guilt-free donations for the album. They also promise that fans who pay extra will be “forgiven for sex sins and stuff AND we’ll tell Jesus to send you cookies.”  Sounds like a pretty sweet deal.

Watch for them on tour this fall.

Tracklisting :

01 “Appetites”
02 “Dirty Knails”
03 “Sleepless in Silverlake”
04 “Let”s Get Out of Here”
05 “Lips n” Stuff”
06 “Poltergeist”
07 “High and Unhinged”
08 “Excess Engergies”
09 “Dear Crutches”
10 “Calm Down”
11 “Clear Spirits”

Since their emergence from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1996, Les Savy Fav have been building a passionate following among musicians, fans, and critics the old fashioned way: by earning it.  In a world where technologies speed new music to listeners and enable young bands instant access to limitless audience, Les Savy Fav is among an increasingly rare breed of band who built their audience city by city and fan by fan. The approach has yielded something even more rare: a fully seasoned band at the peak of their skill that has not been blown out by hype and overexposure. The band’s 2007 release, Let’s Stay Friends, was their first to achieve substantial press response and found it’s place in many lists of top albums for the year.  With their new release, Root For Ruin, Les Savy Fav seems poised for the kind of widespread acclaim many have felt they have long deserved.

The new album is called Root For Ruin for several reasons. Here’s one: it sifts through 15 years of musical experience to arrive at a diamond-edged sound that’s as upfront and direct as the quintet’s legendary live shows. That goes for everything from the gut-punching percussion and drunken punk subtleties of “Clear Spirits” to the moonlit melodies and restless, groove of “Sleepless in Silverlake”. “Poltergeist”, cut in one take at the band’s rehearsal space, features a downward spiral vibe that’s both delirious and delightful.  Root For Ruin keeps you on your toes through 11 tracks.

The band approached their previous release Let’s Stay Friends, after over ten years working together, the way a married couple looking to spice things up might. Like the hosts of a wild swingers party, they opened their arms to embrace new players from such indie rock institutions as the Fiery Furnaces, Broken Social Scene, Enon and Modest Mouse to join them. They even went so far as to invite fans to sing on their tracks over the phone. Root For Ruin finds frontman Tim Harrington, bassist Syd Butler, drummer Harrison Haynes, and guitarists Seth Jabour and Andrew Reuland enjoying a less “open” relationship. The album features only the five Favs. “With our last album, we wanted to cavort around the world and try some freaky stuff.” says Harrington. “With this one(Root For Ruin), it turns out we enjoy making love with one another more than with a group of strangers” adds Jabour.

Weird sex metaphors aside, the tightness of the band is undeniable on Root For Ruin. For some it will signal a return to the rawer energy evidenced on their early recordings. It’s clear by the tracks on the album that the guys are enjoying their own legacy.  Many songs carry the torch for some of the band’s first influences.  Still, it’s not nostalgic.  Root For Ruin is not stylistic pose or aesthetic conceit- it’s the real deal. Les Savy Fav’s commitment to it’s work and fans might explain why one of Brooklyn’s ballsiest bands has maintained such a cult following for more than a decade. With Root For Ruin, they’ve succeeded in distilling their interests and experiences into an album which will continue to influence the independent music scene they’ve helped build while broadening their sound towards a new world of fans.

The Kills – Pale Blue Eyes on Levis Pioneer Sessions

Category: Blog · 0

LEVIS PIONEER SESSIONS

American
Alison “VV” Mosshart and Brit Jamie “Hotel” Hince bridge the Atlantic
Ocean as the Kills, a propulsive duo that reconstructs rock and blues
into a moody and lightning-quick modernized permutation of garage rock.
Mosshart’s background was punk with the band Discount, while Hince
played in a pair of British rock bands. A chance encounter prompted
them to correspond and collaborate across the ocean. The Kills
resulted. The duo announced its arrival in 2002 with the Black Rooster EP, an edgy thing that hinted at the euphoria of the Kills’ live shows. A year later Keep on Your Mean Side
was released. The album lived up to its title, with snaky and
blistering blues-influenced songs. By the time the Kills released Midnight Boom
in 2008 the band’s sound had expanded, with some lighter textures
giving the music a depth and, some claim, greater accessibility.

The dark sounds and spare instrumentation of the Kills has earned
the band no small number of comparisons to the Velvet Underground, the
New York band that pioneered a dark, droning style of avant garde rock.
The VU’s 1967 debut album - The Velvet Underground and Nico
is a rock ‘n’ roll masterpiece and touchstone, featuring jagged guitar
interplay between Lou Reed and Sterling Morrison, menacing viola work
by John Cale and tribal drumming by Mo Tucker. Cale had left the group
by the time it recorded “Pale Blue Eyes” (released in 1969’s The Velvet Underground).
The song represented another side of Reed’s songwriting, delicate and
haunting. As re-crafted by The Kills this beautiful tune starts with a
fuzzy drum that owes much to Tucker’s playing before Hince plays its
lovely and spidery opening melody on guitar. Mosshart’s reading of the
lyrics is fittingly detached until she gets to the titular subject and
her voice cracks with just the right amount of aching.
