Metallica 3D Movie Teaser

Category: News · 0

Earlier this month, Metallica.com confirmed rumors that a 3D movie of the band is in the works.

…the more astute of you may have noticed a couple of mentions in trade publications, and most recently in the new issue of Rolling Stone, that a Metallica 3D movie is in the works. We’re here to tell you that, yes, there is indeed a 3D project in the very early stages of production! We wish we could tell you more right now, but we don’t have all the finer points nailed down just yet. What we can tell you is that we are planning on being in a theatre near you sometime in 2013 and as you hear us say ever so often, this will be the space for all the details as we finalize them.

Now the site has a teaser video up, with a note saying that something big will be happening at 11 AM Pacific Time this morning.

We’ll update this post when more information’s available.

UPDATE: 11:33 AM – It turns out that the big news is not about the 3D movie, but about the Orion Music and More festival which will be held in Atlantic City on June 23rd and 24th. Metallica will “headline and curate” the festival, as they announced during the livestream this morning. Bands including Arctic Monkeys, The Gaslight Anthem, Cage The Elephant, The Black Angels and Liturgy are all scheduled to perform.

Jane’s Addiction recently announced tour dates for 2012. They’re playing at the Rolling Stone Tailgate in Indy on Super Bowl Sunday, then start the “Theatre of the Escapists” tour on  February 22nd in St. Louis. The setlist will include lots of material from their 2011 release The Great Escape Artist. Perry Farrell told Rolling Stone that the staging has been inspired by “Boardwalk Empire.”

“We’re starting to go over stage design and put together the stage, and I’m really happy that we’re underway,” he tells Rolling Stone, adding that video mapping will be a big part of the production. “The style of the show is what I’m calling Twenties surrealist with a Sixties, Warhol pop twist. I’m going through old archival films and finding some crazy stuff, like 1920s stag films.”

Neil Young: Digital Recording Sucks

Category: News · 0

Neil Young wants to preserve the sound quality of current rock recordings – and he believes he had an ally in the late Steve Jobs.

From Rolling Stone:

“My goal is to try and rescue the art form that I’ve been practicing for the past 50 years,” Young said during a panel discussion at this week’s D: Dive Into Media conference in Southern California. “We live in the digital age and, unfortunately, it’s degrading our music, not improving it.”

Young explained that “some rich guy” would ultimately offer a solution by creating new hardware to preserve more audio content in digital formats, and heralded Jobs as a like-minded soul. “Steve Jobs [was] a pioneer of digital music, and his legacy is tremendous,” Young said. “But when he went home, he listened to vinyl. And you’ve got to believe that if he’d lived long enough, he would have done what I’m trying to do.”

Young has also recently posted a 37-minute long collaboration with his band Crazy Horse online. The sequence is titled “Horse Back” and was recorded at Audio Casa Blanca studios on January 6 this month. Hear it streaming online at Neilyoung.com.

Ninjasonik at CMJ 2011

Category: News, On Tour · 0

Eddie is among those in attendance at the CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival in New York City this week. Yesterday he caught some great shots as Ninjasonik played the Spin Magazine Puma Showcase at Union Square.

Click on any of the images to view.

Ninjasonik also played CMJ’s Afro-Punk “Death to Hip-Hop Showcase” on Tuesday night, along with Death, Cerebral Ballzy and Jersey Klan. The band is described like this.

Ninjasonik’s music speaks for itself and while not defined to one genre it has the ability to perhaps be just punk, just hip-hop and just pop. Derived from the not-so subtle title “hipster-sonic”, a comic reference to the lifestyle of Brooklyn’s innovative DIY musicians, the name Ninjasonik reveals more of the group’s vision and musical taste’s than they suspect.

The CMJ Marathon is one of the largest and longest running events of its kind, focusing on new music. CMJ is considered the primary source for independent, non-commercial and college station music charts.

Check back. We’ll have more from the CMJ Marathon, which runs through tomorrow in New York City.

In Tribute to Steve Jobs

Category: News · 0

All of us at MEVIO Music were saddened to learn of the death of Steve Jobs. After suffering a long battle with pancreatic cancer, he passed from this life yesterday at the age of 56.

He profoundly changed the worlds of business, music, film and communications – perhaps most of all the world of music. He helped make it possible for us to take our music with us wherever we go, and also helped to bring musicians and their fans closer together in ways that had previously not been imagined.

You can read our farewell to Steve over on MEVIO Tech. You might also want to check out a special Steve Jobs tribute channel containing videos that celebrate and reflect on his life and legacy. New content will be included from time to time, so if you’d like to subscribe to the RSS feed for the channel you’ll get the most recent videos the moment they’re added.

Rest in peace, Steve.

Outside Lands 2011 Review

Category: News, On Tour · 0

Jackie, Dorian and Eddie chat about the music they heard this year at the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival on this episode of The Rad Report. The festival was held in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park from August 14th through the 18th.

On Friday, Dorian got to check out some of the set from Foster the People. “We only actually heard Pumped Up Kicks and then some covers, but then we saw Ellie Golding. She was amazing.”

The highlight for Jackie was Saturday’s performance from MUSE.

On Sunday, Eddie was finally back from Los Angeles, but since he forgot his wallet, he had to borrow money for the festival (and he still owes Jackie ten bucks, by the way). On the schedule for the day was The Decembrists, and then Arcade Fire. “It’s the first time I’ve ever seen them. They’re such a powerful band. All such talented musicians. Also, they had the sickest backdrops i’ve ever seen of any band,” says Eddie.

Eddie and Jackie both gave the festival and 8 out of 10. Dorian went with a 7, only because the beer lines were incredibly long, and with the limit of two beers per customer, you barely get out of the line and you have to get back into it again. Despite that, they all agreed that they had a great time, and can’t wait for the festival next year.

Now, about that ten bucks…
