Listen to “Ice In The Loveliest Veins”, here:

Long Island indie rockers, My Summer, just self-released their highly anticipated new full-length album, “Ice In The Loveliest Veins”, on July 2nd, 2011. In response to the albums immediate success the band is giving away a song for free!

ormed in 2005 by Mike Longo (guitar, vocals) and Joe Lambiaso (drums), My Summer quickly established themselves as a staple of New York’s indie rock scene, picking up band members Dave Ferrara (guitar) and Joe Gruber (bass) along the way. Before year’s end, they released their first EP and began building up a following along the East Coast with their mix of upbeat guitar-driven rock balanced by melodic, jazzy interludes. In Fall 2006, the band released their first full-length, Catch Fire.

My Summer’s self-titled sophomore release debuted in November 2009. The album highlights the band’s ability to synthesize a range of influences. Songs like “What Your Worth” and “Seething Soul” captured My Summer’s upbeat, yet aggressive sound, while “Wake Up” and “Through the War”, reveal a subtle thread of indie-pop. The record grabbed industry attention and the band found themselves featured on Fearless Radio, New Music Inferno, Eat Sleep Breath Music, PopTimes, AltSounds, The Sound Alarm and The Dave & Glenn Show.

So far 2011 has proved to be the year of My Summer and with this new release, it’s clear their success has only just begun.

According to his press release:

Between The Concrete & Clouds is a record full of firsts for Devine, both sonically and technically.  Perhaps best known for his solo acoustic musings, this is the first record he’s made that is fully backed by a band.  After settling back home in Brooklyn after being on tour for most of 2009 and ’10, Devine spent time in his rehearsal space playing around with ideas on his own, bringing shape to the songs by recording them as acoustic demos, something he hasn’t done since high school.
Produced by longtime collaborator Chris Bracco and mixed by Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith, Dr. Dog), Between the Concrete & Clouds was recorded in 10 days over a span of a month.  The 10 track album features musicians Brian Bonz (keyboard), Chris Bracco (bass, keyboard), Mike Fadem (drums, percussion), Russell Smith (electric guitar), and Mike Strandberg (guitar, mandolin).  This is the first recording Devine’s done with his version of this band, and it had an inspired impact on the final product.
“The combination of Chris and Rob on this record kind of marries the best aspects of everything I’ve tried to do over the past ten years,” said Kevin.  “I tried to explore a bit musically and make an album that still has a lot to chew on, but serves it with a scoop of ice cream,” said Kevin.  “I took the lyrical density of what I typically write – which are not-simple stories about not-simple people, or what I feel life is most accurately like – but give them more of a traditional pop structure.”
Devine has received numerous accolades from press and fans alike over the span of his nine year career.  His discography includes several EPs and live albums, as well as past full-lengths Circle Gets the Square (2002), Make the Clocks Move (2003), Split The Country, Split The Street (2005), Put Your Ghost to Rest (2006), Brother’s Blood (2009), and Bad Books (2010), a side project Kevin worked on with Andy Hull and other members of Manchester Orchestra.  Kevin has played with top artists including Bright Eyes, Manchester Orchestra, Okkervill River, Earlimart, and many more, and has performed at the following festivals: Coachella 2010, Bonnaroo 2010, Bamboozle 2010, Lollapalooza 2009, Austin City Limits 2007, and Soundwave 2008 (Australia).

Moby: “The Day” Music Video

Category: New Releases · 0

Anji Bee has Moby’s video for The Day on episode 61 of Chillcast Video.

Richard Mellville “Moby” Hall began playing classical guitar before he was ten years old, moving on to learn piano and drums as well. Although his certainly wasn’t the first electronic music to ever hit the pop charts, he has achieved an international stardom that is rare in any genre, particularly Electronica. His 1999 album Play remains one of the largest-selling Electronica albums ever, and the single South Side made Moby a household name. Through the years, he has remained true to his own musical vision while he has worked tirelessly toward promoting humanitarian causes and animal rights.

His tenth studio album, Destroyed, was released on May 11th. The album art was shot by Moby himself at LaGuardia  Airport during a flight delay.

In an interview with Stereoboard UK, Moby had this to say about the first single released from the album, The Day.

The Day was written in a hotel room in Spain at dawn when I hadn’t slept. I wrote it on an acoustic guitar and recorded it on my phone, brought it home and re-recorded it with old broken down electronics that I have in my studio.

The song has been described as a deeply personal reflection on “the dark night of the soul.”

And as Anji mentions, yes, indeed – that is Heather Graham appearing in the video.

Interview with The Sounds

Category: New Releases, On Tour · 0

The Rad Report interviews The Sounds’ multi-instrumentalist Jesper Anderberg during their recent stop in San Francisco. He talks about, among other things, their new album Something To Die For which was released on March 29th.

Formed in Helsingborg, Sweden in 1999, The Sounds’ style has been compared to bands like Blondie, The Cars and Missing Persons. They describe their own music as “Post-Punk Revival,” “Dance Punk” and “New Wave” along with the catch all “Indie Rock.”

Band Members:

  • Maja Ivarsson – Vocals
  • Felix Rodriguez- Guitar
  • Johan Bengtsson – Bass
  • Jesper Anderberg – Keyboards, Piano, Guitar
  • Fredrik Nilsson – Drums

The new album Something To Die For features the following tracks.

  • It’s So Easy
  • Dance With The Devil
  • The No No Song
  • Better Off Dead
  • Diana
  • Something To Die For
  • Yeah Yeah Yeah
  • Won’t Let Them Tear Us Apart
  • The Best Of Me
  • Wish You Were Here

So far, two singles have been released from the album, Better Off Dead and the title track. The band has used innovative methods to market their music, including shows on MySpace and fan cover version song competitions.

If you’ve never heard of The Sounds, you may still have heard them. Their song Hurt You was used in a Geiko commercial back in 2003. You’ve probably also seen photos of the stunning Ms. Ivarsson, who has been named one of the “Hottest Women of Rock” by Blender magazine.

So, what does The Rad Report think of The Sounds on stage? “Fun like only Swedish new wave indie rockers can do.”

Dave Stewart The Blackbird Diaries Release Date

Dave is backed throughout the album by a stellar assortment of musicians on the album including guitarist Tom Bukovac, drummer Chad Cromwell, bassist Michael Rhodes, steel guitarist Dan Dugmore and Mike Rojas on piano. “This was my favorite time ever in the studio, I wrote most of the songs on the spot and recorded all of them in one incredible session lasting 5 days and nights!,”  explains Dave Stewart.  I made an unusual film of the process that not only features all the musicians and performers but also gives away some of my writing secrets which involves both a well known fortune teller and hypnotist who allowed themselves to be filmed in session with me.”

Dave Stewart’s The Blackbird Diaries is unlike anything he has embarked on during his illustrious 30 year music career both with Eurythmics and as a solo artist. With an American flare and rooted in rock, country, and blues, the album is in the vein of recent releases by Bob Dylan and Neil Young – masterful recordings mixed with rich and detailed lyrics.  The Blackbird Diaries showcases a very different type of songwriting for Stewart with more story-driven autobiographical lyrics, which is a departure from the pop/rock sounds which have made him one of the most successful and revered songwriters/collaborators of all time. Tales of loves conquered and loves lost, Dave gets intimate, personal with words while he allows his music to rock free on an album that might just prove to be this artist’s second, and perhaps finest, act.

A multi-media entrepreneur, Dave Stewart is recognized as one of the most respected and accomplished talents in the entertainment industry today.  His career spans more than 30 years and more than 100 million album sales, plus a Lifetime Achievement Award with Eurythmics partner Annie Lennox. With Lennox, Stewart delivered ingenious pop/rock hits such as “Here Comes The Rain Again,” “Would I Lie To You,” “Missionary Man,” and “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)”.  One of the most sought-after writers and music producers, Dave has crafted songs for and collaborated with the likes of Mick Jagger, Bono, Tom Petty, and Gwen Stefani (to name a few) and has shared the stage with everybody from BB King, U2, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. Stewart has won Best British Producer four times and Best British Songwriter five times, as well as numerous Grammy, MTV, and European awards.  A highly-regarded artist and filmmaker, Stewart has scored and penned the title songs for many hit movies throughout the years, including the Mick Jagger collaboration for the film Alfie, which won the pair a Golden Globe. He produced the award-winning documentary Deep Blues, and his feature directorial debut Honestpremiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000. Stewart and songwriter/producer Glen Ballard recently wrote a musical adaptation of the 1990 Jerry Zucker film Ghost, which opens in London’s West End in June this year. This Year Stewart also co-wrote and co-produced Joss Stone’s new album as well as Stevie Nicks’ new album “In Your Dreams” which marks the first occasion Nicks has ever collaborated on a solo album.

“We feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Dave.  He is a legend who has been associated with all kinds of quality music for years and the Blackbird Diaries is an amazing accomplishment.  We will hunt and kill for him, adds Cliff Chenfeld, Co-Owner Razor & Tie.
Dave Stewart is the latest addition to join the leading independent label Razor & Tie and the diverse and acclaimed roster that includes such artists as Foreigner, Vanessa Carlton, Richard Ashcroft, Nicole Atkins, Angelique Kidjo, Dave Barnes, All That Remains, Norma Jean, Dweezil Zappa, Dar Williams, Chelsea Grin and The Summer Set.  The New York City-based label is one of the fastest growing independent record companies in the United States, and has garnered both Platinum sales and Grammy awards in its 20-year history.

Drive A – “Let’s Have A Wreck (Trainwreck)” music video

Category: New Releases · 0

Music video from Drive A – “Let’s Have a Wreck (Trainwreck)”

Sometimes a chance meeting is more than it seems – in the case of Drive A, a random moment ignited a fuse resulting in a incendiary new band. Songs about rebellion, crunchy guitars and killer hooks have their foundation in old school punk and rock n’ roll that the band reveres but their stage presence and delivery is fresh and in the now.  With a fan following that is expanding exponentially, it’s clear that the band is onto something. Drive A come roaring into 2011 with their brand new album, The World in Shambles, out on Dead Conflict Records on April 12th, available on iTunes now.

The World in Shambles is the follow up to their debut album Loss of Desire (2009). The critically acclaimed album which featured singles “Are You Blind” and “Can’t Sleep It Off” set the precedent for Drive A’s form of high energy rock n’ roll and provided the soundtrack for their energetic live show.  Frontman Bruno Mascolo explains “although we’re still proud of Loss of Desire, we feel we’ve come along way as musicians and songwriters, you can hear that we’ve played about 200 shows since our last record.” The band freely admits that their singular mission upon entering the studio was to craft an album that bottled their firecracker live energy and onstage prowess. They collectively rejected polished, computerized techniques and technologies in favor of beautiful, genuine imperfections, all of which serve to make The World in Shambles that much more authentic.

On The World in Shambles the band wanted to shake up their comfort zone, so instead of working with longtime friend Dennis Hill (producer of Drive A’s 2009 debut Loss of Desire) the band recorded the album in two parts. The first session was recorded on analog equipment to tape at 1974 Studios in Silver Lake with Dave Cobb and the second session took place at Sunset Sound with Julian Raymond. Despite the band’s “Fuck You” attitude towards concepts like conformity and fitting in with a “scene,” Mascolo mentions that a current of positive energy courses through the album’s veins. “There is a positive message at the end of every song,” he admitted. “The idea of singing about a negative subject can sometimes be therapeutic, but most of the time it becomes cliché and loses the original meaning.”  “Revolt!” is about Mascolo’s travels abroad, specifically in Europe, last summer. “It seemed more like a community over there,” the singer mused. “There is a real lack of community here, people are just so about themselves, but it’s not like that overseas.”

The title track “Let’s Have a Wreck (Trainwreck)” is another personal song that lays its cards face up on the table. Mascolo revealed that the song is about “having an addiction to destroying situations or relationships,” a construct that all of Drive A’s fans are able to connect with. It’s also the first video clip from the album; directed by Shane Drake (Paramore, PATD, FOB, Twighlight music videos, etc)

Chuck D Teams up With Eclectic Method

Category: Free Music, New Releases, News · 0

Two members of London trio Eclectic Method Moved to the states and released their debut single Outta Sight on March 15h.  and it just so happens to be a stunner featuring Chuck D. Not prone to resting on their laurels, or resting at all for that matter, two days after the release they arrived at SXSW and gave us all a healthy dose, kicking off the Vimeo/Nikon party with Diplo, rocking the PepsiMax show with Pharaoh Monch, not to mention opening for their personal heroes Wu-Tang Clan. And they didn’t stop there. On March 29 they made their national TV debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon as members of The Copyright Criminals All Star Band (EM, Clyde Stubblefield, Chuck D, ?uest Love, and Black Thought). Copyright Criminals’ redux of “Fight the Power” signaled a defining moment in TV history featuring three generations of sampling icons, from the source to the innovators: Stubblefield (the most sampled drummer ever), Chuck D (the visionary who helped bring sampling to the masses), and of course EM, whose genre-bending cut-ups continue to transform the future landscape of the art form. But perhaps we’re getting ahead of ourselves.

MNDR “Cut Me Out” Music Video

Category: New Releases · 0

MNDR (pronounced “mandar”) consists of Amanda Warner and Peter Wade. They are a an electronic music duo, formed in 2009 in New York City.

In 2008, Warner moved from Oakland, Ca. to New York city to work as a songwriter for hire. Eventually she met Wade, and that meeting decided to think about fronting an act herself. The duo uploaded four tracks to Myspace in 2009, which would eventually be turned into their debut EP: E. P.E. They are currently working on a full length album that will hopefully be released sometime in 2011.

The duo re-recorded the song “Fade To Black” from E. P.E. on the fake language of Simlish, and is featured in the video game The Sims3: High-End Loft Stuff.

MNDR’s official Green Label Sound single “Cut Me Out” now has a video that is equally impressive! Director Tim Saccenti and Amanda Warner (MNDR) combined their creativity to give a visual complement to the song’s emotion and lyrics. Tim’s team used Kinect technology to capture the images, and then manipulated the data into what you see in the final product (watch the behind the scenes video). This unique technique yields an incredible digital aesthetic that expresses the nature of the track. So check out the video and don’t forget to download the official Green Label Sound single “ Cut Me Out ” and the Hervé remix for free right now!
