Reform School vs. Katy Perry “Wide Awake”

Martina and Jackie take on Katy Perry’s latest video for her song Wide Awake on this week’s episode of Music Video Reform School.

Wide Awake was written especially for the closing credits of Perry’s new movie, Part Of Me, which documents her recent concert tour and was released on July 5th. The video for the song will also be included in the DVD release of the film. It portrays a fairy tale story, with little girl “Katheryn” looking back over Perry’s Teenage Dream era, and leading Katy through a dark period (presumably including her breakup with Russell Brand) and into the light of a new day where everything is beautiful, fresh and cheery.

The Reform School Girls both loved this video. From the costuming, hair and makeup, to the sets and rich allegory, everything is pitch perfect.

Here’s part of what they said.

When this came out, I watched it twice, but I’m gonna watch it again and I’m gonna enjoy it, because it’s amazing.

The song is nice, but definitely taking a darker side.

She looks so good with gothic purple hair.

She looks good no matter what.

It’s really annoying actually.

I know. It’s not fair.

This is one of her best songs this past year, to me.

This reminds me of Alice in Wonderland.

Creative, beautiful, and unexpected…

Final Grade: A+!
