Sacred Oath “Meet Your Maker” Music Video

Category: Videos · 0

Here’s the official music video for “Meet Your Maker” by Sacred Oath.

Sacred Oath began back in 1985 in Bethel, Connecticut when high school friends with a love for classic Metal decided to try their hand at it. Little did they know that their music would help to spawn what became known as “American Power Metal,” nor did they realize what a strange business the music industry can be.

They were signed by Mercenary Records in 1986, recorded their label debut A Crystal Vision in 1987, and then collapsed, as the record company went bankrupt shortly after the album was released. For a lot of bands, that would have been the end.

Wonder of wonders, the album became an influential cult hit, prized by collectors and cited by critics (and bands who came later) as a pioneering masterpiece. “Oathbangers” (as the band’s followers came to be called) waited patiently for more. As it turns out, they would have to wait until the turn of a new century.

But since the band reformed after the 2001 re-release of A Crystal Vision, they’ve produced five full-length albums (plus a recent EP, Thrash Inc.), all critically acclaimed. Meet Your Maker is from their October 2010 release World On Fire. The album made iTunes’ list of best Metal albums of the year, and it’s been well received by hard core Oathbangers – and now by an entire new generation of fans as well, after the video for Meet Your Maker premiered on MTV.

“Undivided” is the first U.S. release for Pan-Asian Girl Group Blush. It’s currently in the top 20 of the U.S. Billboard Dance charts, and the band is receiving a lot of attention after making their U.S. TV debut on “So You Think You Can Dance” earlier this month.

Dubbed by some “The Asian Spice Girls” Blush includes members from the Philippines, India, China, Japan and South Korea.

Here’s how they’re described on their official website.

For the new group Blush – comprised of Victoria, Natsuko, Angeli, Ji Hae and Alisha – the anticipation is huge, the excitement is genuine and the love is already spreading around the world. The music of Blush is edgy and fun with a unique spin, delivered by five gifted girls on a mission. The members are all Asian, and all five have world-class talents and charm.

In addition to this live action video portraying a dance party and featuring an appearance from Snoop Dogg, a groundbreaking animated video was also created for the song by acclaimed animator Shawn Harris entirely on his iPad using the Brushes App.

Originally brought together as part of an Asian talent competition and reality television show called Project Lotus, Blush was one of the opening acts for Justin Bieber when he played Hong Kong back in May.

The track is available at iTunes in a dozen delicious remix flavors.

We Came As Romans Interview

Category: Interviews, On Tour · 0

MeVIO’s Warped Tour coverage continues with Martina and Jackie’s interview with Joshua Moore of We Came As Romans on Emo Girl TV.

Hailing from Troy, Michigan, We Came As Romans began playing together in 2005, and have since recorded two EPs and two full-length albums, the latest of which (Understanding What We’ve Grown To Be) is expected to be released in September. The band is often noted for their joyous, positive vibe.

The girls asked Joshua how he’s enjoying the Warped Tour so far. “It’s awesome, but it’s really hot, all the time.” Moore says that his favorite date on the tour so far was in Pamona. “We had a really good set time and there was a ton of kids.”

So, how did the band get their name?

We were a super-local band, playing these terrible hall shows about twice a month. We were, like, sixteen and seventeen, playing to 20 kids. A couple of our members came up with the name and that was it. At that time I never imagined that I’d be sitting on a couch at the Warped Tour being asked how we came up with the name.

What other bands has Moore enjoyed seeing on the Warped Tour? “I grew up listening to Reliant K. So I saw them on stage the other day and they were awesome.” He also says that he’s friends with members in a lot of the other bands on the tour, and it’s great to see them getting recognition.

Moore also says that he’s excited about the impending release of the new album, and the opportunity to play the new songs live. “We already released the first track, Misunderstanding, and also the title track, and we’re playing both of them on tour. It’s awesome to be playing new music again after playing the same songs for the past two years.”

Simple Plan Interview

Category: On Tour · 0

MeVIO Music’s Warped Tour Coverage continues as Martina and Jackie interview Pierre Bouvier and David Desrosiers of Simple Plan for Emo Girl TV.

Simple Plan formed in 1999 in Montréal, drawing it’s nucleus from Bouvier’s (and drummer Chuck Comeau’s) previous band, Reset. They’ve not had any lineup changes in all the years since. Their secret?

“Leave your ego at home,” according to bassist Desrosiers.

Bouvier elaborates. “Yeah, that’s a big thing. I think for us it’s a lot of communication. When you have a problem there are two ways to deal with it. You can just shove it under the rug, and eventually it’s going to blow up, or you can talk about it and work your problems out.”

He adds that he doesn’t think they’ve had it easier than any other bands out there when it comes to relationship struggles. “There have been times when somebody wanted to quit, but we talk about it.”

Bouvier notes that the band members have been good friends to one another for a long time now. “We’ve been doing this together for 18 years, some of us, so it’s something we don’t want to lose.”

As to the mystery of the band’s name, one of the oft-repeated stories happens to be true. They were preparing for a gig on a Saturday night, and didn’t have a name yet. Their producer at the time, Graham Humphrey, had just seen the movie “A Simple Plan” and said “that would make a great band name.” They adopted the shorter version of the name, thinking that they might change it later, but ultimately kept it as is.

Bouvier says that it turns out to make sense. “We’ve always seen being in a band as a way for us to just have a good life and enjoy ourselves and do what we want to do – and it’s a simple plan.”

When asked why Simple Plan has been less prolific in the studio that some of their contemporaries, producing only four albums in their twelve years together, Desrosiers says that it comes down to extensive touring and a desire to produce quality recordings. “We are lucky enough to have fans all over the world. Some bands do an American tour and they’re done. We go to Australia, Southeast Asia, South America, South Africa, all over Europe – so it takes a long time to tour.”

“Everything we put out we have to be proud of, and our fans expect that,” says Bouvier.

Ted Nugent Interview

Category: On Tour · 0

Michael Butler interviews Rock and Roll legend and luminary of the outdoor spirit Ted Nugent on the Rock and Roll Geek Show.

For more than five decades, Ted Nugent has been thrilling audiences with his rambunctious guitar rides and unrivaled showmanship. With record sales in excess of 30 million, several books under his belt, and a new single celebrating American exceptionalism, Nugent is currently on what he calls “the best tour of my life.”

“With Mick Brown on Drums, Greg Smith on Bass, and Derek St. Holmes back with us, I’ve got the best band on planet Earth,” says Nugent. Concertgoers who have attended this tour roundly agree.

Nugent is also a constant presence on the Outdoor Channel, and a stalwart defender of hunting and gun owners’ rights, with a reputation as a firebrand, but when Michael caught up with him on July 5th in San Francisco, he proved to be a gentle, refined soul with a kind disposition and a true sense of nuance.

Okay, who are we kidding? He’s the Nuge!

Here’s a typical exchange.

Butler: “What’s the best way to cure a rabbit’s foot or a raccoon’s tail?”
Nugent: “How do you kill your rabbits?”
Butler: “Our dogs kill them?”
Nugent (grinning) : “I love it when dogs kill. Have you seen my band? Those are my dogs, and they kill s— too!”

You won’t be spared an informative discussion of politics if you speak with Nugent, either. Belching the word “Buh-RAWK” he says “That’s the only decent use of toxic gas, by the way – stating the president’s name.”

Despite the breezy, jocular persona, those who know Nugent would tell you that he is also has a serious, deeply spiritual side. Beyond that, his generosity, particularly toward children and those with special needs, has been largely unheralded. Don’t mention that to Ted though. He’d probably go all gonzo on you.

You can watch both parts of Michael’s interview with Ted Nugent at the following links.

Part One – Michael Butler interivews Ted Nugent

Part Two – Michael Butler interviews Ted Nugent and Derek St. Holmes

You’ll find current tour dates on Ted Nugent’s official website.

By the way, what is the best way to cure a rabbit’s foot? Salt, it appears is key to the process. Or, says Nugent, you can do something called brain tanning “but first you have to leave California so you can find a f—ing brain.”

The Fire Apes – Hey Kate Music Video

Category: Blog · 0

” ‘Hey Kate!’ leads with pop-song mastery where other bands wish they could follow. For instance, it would fit comfortably as a prime track on any Fountains of Wayne or Jimmy Eats World album. Don’t dismiss it because it uses the hook every pop-punk band in the 90s & 00s, and don’t underestimate the ska-beat turnaround preceding every chorus. It just works.” – Bill Realman Radio

The song was also featured as the Song of the Day at Eat Sleep Breathe Music, Peter’s Powerpop Blog, and Powerpopaholic and has been added into rotation at radio stations across the country!

ormed in 2005 by Mike Longo (guitar, vocals) and Joe Lambiaso (drums), My Summer quickly established themselves as a staple of New York’s indie rock scene, picking up band members Dave Ferrara (guitar) and Joe Gruber (bass) along the way. Before year’s end, they released their first EP and began building up a following along the East Coast with their mix of upbeat guitar-driven rock balanced by melodic, jazzy interludes. In Fall 2006, the band released their first full-length, Catch Fire.

Songs like “What Your Worth” and “Seething Soul” captured My Summer’s upbeat, yet aggressive sound, while “Wake Up” and “Through the War”, reveal a subtle thread of indie-pop. The record grabbed industry attention and the band found themselves featured on Fearless Radio, New Music Inferno, Eat Sleep Breath Music, PopTimes, AltSounds, The Sound Alarm and The Dave & Glenn Show.

Shonen Knife have been the most internationally recognized name in Japanese Rock music since their entrance onto the alternative rock scene in the early 90s when them became the indie darlings of hipsters and rock stars alike. Since their inception in Osaka in 1981 (featuring Naoko’s sister Atsuko and their friend, bassist/vocalist Michie), to their current lineup featuring members Ritsuko (bass, vocals) and Emi (drums, vocals), Shonen Knife have maintained their rightful place in the ever changing indie rock scene.

mp3: Between The Concrete and Clouds

According to his press release:

Between The Concrete & Clouds is a record full of firsts for Devine, both sonically and technically.  Perhaps best known for his solo acoustic musings, this is the first record he’s made that is fully backed by a band.  After settling back home in Brooklyn after being on tour for most of 2009 and ’10, Devine spent time in his rehearsal space playing around with ideas on his own, bringing shape to the songs by recording them as acoustic demos, something he hasn’t done since high school.
Produced by longtime collaborator Chris Bracco and mixed by Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith, Dr. Dog), Between the Concrete & Clouds was recorded in 10 days over a span of a month.  The 10 track album features musicians Brian Bonz (keyboard), Chris Bracco (bass, keyboard), Mike Fadem (drums, percussion), Russell Smith (electric guitar), and Mike Strandberg (guitar, mandolin).  This is the first recording Devine’s done with his version of this band, and it had an inspired impact on the final product.
“The combination of Chris and Rob on this record kind of marries the best aspects of everything I’ve tried to do over the past ten years,” said Kevin.  “I tried to explore a bit musically and make an album that still has a lot to chew on, but serves it with a scoop of ice cream,” said Kevin.  “I took the lyrical density of what I typically write – which are not-simple stories about not-simple people, or what I feel life is most accurately like – but give them more of a traditional pop structure.”
Devine has received numerous accolades from press and fans alike over the span of his nine year career.  His discography includes several EPs and live albums, as well as past full-lengths Circle Gets the Square (2002), Make the Clocks Move (2003), Split The Country, Split The Street (2005), Put Your Ghost to Rest (2006), Brother’s Blood (2009), and Bad Books (2010), a side project Kevin worked on with Andy Hull and other members of Manchester Orchestra.  Kevin has played with top artists including Bright Eyes, Manchester Orchestra, Okkervill River, Earlimart, and many more, and has performed at the following festivals: Coachella 2010, Bonnaroo 2010, Bamboozle 2010, Lollapalooza 2009, Austin City Limits 2007, and Soundwave 2008 (Australia).

  • Fallen Angels
  • Love Isn’t Always Fair
