The Jay Trainer Band Live in Studio A

Category: Blog · 0

jaytrainer.png

Jay Trainer combines thick, prolific guitar riffs and stark
lyricism, while drawing on the traditions of funk, rock, blues, and
psychedelia to craft a modern classic. The singer/songwriter possesses a
unique ability to effortlessly negotiate tone and volume, moving from a
quiet, almost jazzy tone to a booming thunder at any given moment. The
effect calls to mind the masters of several genres of rock music.

To achieve this, Trainer pulls from his roots: blues revivalists,
folksy protest songs, classic songwriters and classic rockers like Jimi
Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and The Allman Brothers Band. But the aspect that
grabs both music lovers and critics is the additional elements ranging
from the likes of Jeff Beck to Jeff Buckley. His unique combination
of genre-defying compositions and free-form jams have been causing a
stir in the local Bay Area scene.

Having shared the stage with national acts including North
Mississippi All Stars, legendary guitarist Dickey Betts, Robert Walter’s
20th Congress (founding member of The Greyboy Allstars), Eric McFadden
(former touring member of George Clinton’s P-Funk All Stars), Cowboy
Mouth and Vinyl, Jay Trainer has created a new foothold in the West
Coast music scene with a rare combination of infectious backbeats and
guitar driven grooves.

The live show is what Trainer is known for. His performances are
raw, personal and uninhibited. It is clear from his latest EP, simply
titled Jay Trainer Band, that he has brought this same energy to the
studio. Tracks like “Miss You Well” and “As The World Burns Down”
capture the emotion and expression of his live performance. Tracks like
“Maybe I’m Wrong” and “Run” show Trainer’s ability to use the studio
like an additional member of the band. A veteran of countless recording
sessions, his “get it in the first take” approach has paid off and is
bringing back a great sense of honesty to Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Additional Info: Jay Trainer is also the founder and
an active member of Artfulchange, a social action network that uses the
power of art and music to help raise awareness for environmental
causes. Artfulchange is run by
Trainer and several local Bay Area artists from San Francisco who are
working closely with several local organizations on issues such as
sustainable living, global warming and wildlife conservation. Please
visit www.artfulchange.org to learn more about how you can use your passion for the arts to make a difference.

During their summer tour with Interpol, Twin Tigers were able to bring their unique sound to larger audiences, creating further interest and awareness to their music.  Their debut album, Gray Waves, was released via Old Flame Records in March 2010.  The critically acclaimed album helped thrust the band into the indie spotlight, allowing them to perform with some of the best known bands in their genre including Deerhunter, The Hold Steady, Woods, Les Savy Fav, and A Place To Bury Strangers.

Their debut EP, Curious Faces / Violet Future, was released in 2008 to critical acclaim, and followed by a a digital EP, Automatic, in late 2009.  Following the completion of Gray Waves, Twin Tigers joined Minus The Bear and The Antlers on tour in the fall of 2009, and performed at the WOXY showcase and Sneak Attack Media at SXSW 2010.

The four piece band from Athens, Georgia was formed by Matthew Rain (guitars/vocals) and Aimee Morris (bass) when the two were co-workers at Michael Stipe’s Grit restaurant.  Through constant touring with bands including Dead Confederate, Jay Reatard, Black Lips, Dungen, and Snowden, Twin Tigers built a solid fan base throughout the southeast.  The band rounded out its current lineup with Forrest Hall (guitars) in 2009.

Category: Blog · 0

The tale of Valora is told in a 5-chapter graphic novel, featuring our heroine, a kick-ass female character armed with a rebellious streak and a keen sense of justice. Valora has just released their first motion graphic video featuring Chapter 1 from the graphic novel set to a song entitled “Live.” The video begins in ancient Egypt, where a forbidden romance has developed between the son of the high priest and Valora, who is one of the queen’s bodyguards, and will end in violence and death…but not before a ritual is performed that binds their souls together for all eternity. The ritual involves crystal shards from a powerful and mysterious orb… An orb that our two lovers will spend many lifetimes trying to keep out of the hands of people who would use it for evil in upcoming chapters of the story. Watch the video for “Live” to see what happens in Chapter 1 and be on the lookout for the rest of the story coming soon!

With the aid of General Elektriks’ Hervé Salters, Pigeon John produced the whole record, including, for the first time, recording and chopping up his own instrumentation rather than just flipping samples and banging on an MPC. Quannum Projects is set to release Pigeon John’s new album Dragon Slayer on October 12, 2010, the follow up to critically acclaimed Pigeon John…And The Summertime Pool Party.

Pigeon John kicks off his national tour with DJ Abilities on September 30th.  DJ Abilities will be performing his own set as well as mashing it up on stage as Pigeon John’s DJ. Experience the greatness live…

Pop singer-songwriter Jenni Alpert
from Los Angeles in the last year has been
working in the studio with Brad Smith (Blind Melon) on a new record (that is streaming right now as you read), has just toured in Europe supporting Jon Allen from the UK in incredible places, been on national and international

unexpected musical adventures.

Since graduating UCLA, she has independently toured
the US and internationally in over 14 countries with regularity in the

Australia starting off as a singing backpacker… and yes in the not so
distant past was that girl who supported Loudon Wainwright III, Jon
Allen, Kaki King, and shared a stage or two with Regina Spektor and her

love.

BIO:

Soundgarden were one of many bands who gained enormous popularity
in the grunge era. Coming out of Seattle, Soundgarden was a highly
punk-influenced metal band who relied on the blistering riffs of
guitarist of Kim Thayil. Along with Thayil there was vocalist Chris
Cornell, bassist Hiro Yamamoto and drummer Matt Cameron. The band
emerged into the underground scene in the 80s, and although they were
not popular at the time, still made great impressions in concert. With their group experimentation into various psychedelic, indie and
alternative melodies they consistently produced impressive and
critically acclaimed studio albums.

Not Aware by The Maybenauts

Category: Blog · 0

PRIMARY_maybenauts-thumb-640xauto-145019.jpg

BIO:

“Little more than a year old–they played their first show in January
2009–the Maybenauts have the sort of imaginative arrangements
(glam-rock to psychedelic pop), sophisticated melodies (three-part vocal
harmonies a specialty) and cohesive vision (think of a ’60s go-go
bacchanal in outer space) lacking in many power-pop groups that have
been slogging it out for a decade or more.” –Jim DeRogatis, Chicago
Sun Times

The Maybenauts make glam-pop girl rock… with a space
panda! Their music is glitzy and dynamic, rich with three-part
harmonies, danceable grooves, and air-guitar-inspiring rock riffs. The
band’s powerhouse rhythm section (featuring Ellie Maybe on bass and
Emily Agustin on drums) provides the backbone for the anthemic and
intricate guitar work of the upside-down-and-all-over-the-place Space
Panda, also known by his earth name: Vee Sonnets. Fronting the group
is the adorable and vivacious singer Leilani Frey, whose voice moves
seamlessly between angelically tender to balls-out belting.

With
harmonies and hooks inspired by artists ranging from Heart to The Kinks
to The Go-Gos, the Maybenauts’ songs are fueled by the audacious passion
of arena rock glory. This band has a touch of that
something-for-everyone vibe, but they create a unique brand of pop/rock
music that is all at once saccharine, scandalous, and out of this world.
