Ra Ra Riot Tour Dates

Category: New Releases, News, On Tour · 0

Due August 24th on Barsuk Records, The Orchard follows up Ra Ra Riot’s debut album, The Rhumb Line, released two years earlier, almost to the day. The Rhumb Line debuted at #109 on the U.S. album chart and went on to sell in excess of 60,000 copies.

Ra Ra Riot also just announced an extensive North American tour in support of The Orchard. Preceded by appearances at the Osheaga and Bumbershoot festivals and  a support slot for Devo at  this year’s Columbus Ohio State Fair, the tour kicks off with a September 21-24 four-night stand  in New York, with coast to coast headlining dates running through to late November.

The Orchard was produced by Ra Ra Riot and Andrew Maury and mixed by Chris Walla (with the exception of “Do You Remember,” which was mixed by Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij), The Orchard’s full track listing is:

01 The Orchard
02 Boy
03 Too Dramatic
04 Foolish
05 Massachusetts
06 You and I Know
07 Shadowcasting
08 Do You Remember
09 Kansai
10 Keep It Quiet

Ra Ra Riot is vocalist Wes Miles, bassist Mathieu Santos, guitarist Milo Bonacci, violinist Rebecca Zeller and cellist Alexandra Lawn. The Orchard marks the first time the band has been joined in the studio by drummer Gabriel Duquette, who has toured with the band since the release of The Rhumb Line.

Mock & Toof – Farewell To Wendo music video

Mock & Toof on Facebook

Duncan Stump (Mock) & Nick Woolfson (Toof) are two of the UK’s most creative music producers. Having made a name for themselves via 12” releases on James Murphy’s DFA Recordings and their own Tiny Sticks imprint; the pair have forged a reputation for brilliantly off-kilter, disco-fuelled house grooves that are laced with originality. Enough originality in fact to have caught the attention of Hot Chip, Zero 7, Holy Ghost! and Groove Armada who’ve all come calling for their remix services.

Mock & Toof were infamously discovered by DFA via
a single mp3 demo emailed into the website address (which later became
the single “Brownbred” for their Death From Abroad imprint). Since then
they have gone on to provide unique remixes for The Juan Maclean, Hot
Chip & Holy Ghost for the label and 2008 saw the release of their
proper DFA debut – the elastic dance pop single “Underwater”.

Since this enigmatic English duo began corresponding with DFA they
started their own label Tiny Sticks and were immediately commissioned
for remixes for the likes of Maps, Scissor Sisters, Zero 7, Groove
Armada, The Doves and Ladyhawke.

They became underground sensations on the disco edit scene when their
mixes of ‘Like A Virgin’ (re-titled “Lycra Virgin”) and 10CC’s ‘Good
Morning Judge’ continued the groundswell of fans and saw other DJ’s
championing their work.

When Mock & Toof released the single “Beat Up” on their own
Tiny Sticks label, a song on that single hinted at what was to come.
The song “Lucky” featured the vocals of Scottish musician and
songwriter Gavin Gordon, someone the duo had been collaborating with.
It showed a new direction and ambition for Mock & Toof, a step
outside of the nightclubs they were helping to soundtrack, far more
towards a modern pop song, from the vocals to the hypnotic arrangements
and rhythm tracks.

What came next was the single “Underwater”, a true breakthrough in
their newfound quest and a song so undeniably laid back and catchy the
duo came up with “cosmic sea shanty” to sum it up.

The next stage in their development saw the involvement of Munich based
artist Pollyester (Love In C Minor / Permanent Vacation) & a
working relationship via the internet was quickly established.

Inevitably Mock & Toof are now very much in demand on the DJ
circuit having played to fans as far a field as Australia, Russia,
Brazil, France, USA, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Norway, Ireland,
Luxembourg etc…

The Ettes – No Home music video

This garage-rock power trio answers their own question with an emphatic
“Yes!” on their sharp and energetic third release. Lead singer and
guitarist Coco Hames is a potent blend of sass and venom. She plays the
coy temptress one moment and the jilted vixen the next as the airtight
rhythm section hammers the beat home behind her. Brief, punchy,
fuzzed-out rockers like “Red In Tooth and Claw,” “I Can’t Be True,”
“Walk Out That Door,” and “No Home” are the foundation of the album and
the band’s sound, but they know how to ease off the throttle, too. The
loping, nearly country strummer “Love Lies Bleeding” is as catchy as
anything here, while the piano-with-cello ballad “Keep Me In Flowers”
closes the album on a surprisingly vulnerable and touching note. In the
end, this variety, along with the crispness of the songwriting, makes Do You Want Power their most impressive release yet.

Mirros Live on Mevio Underground

About Mirros

In November of 2008, the former rhythm section of a going-nowhere Nor Cal punk band got in touch with a recent guitar transplant from Illinois. From initial meetings the stage was set, and jam sessions were scheduled that turned into writing sessions once the trio discovered they had actual chemistry. The first songs were written without any set notion of how they’d sound, but upon the good fortune of the first few tunes all sounding cohesive and unified, a decision was made to actually take the next step and form a new band. Several names were suggested, but ultimately a typo on the Myspace login page was what gave the band it’s moniker. Mirros was born with the instrumental lineup of Arnold Hablewitz on guitar, Surge Vaquerano on Bass, and Douglas Richardson on Drums.

In March of 2009, instrumental tracks were laid down at Castle Ultimate Studios in Fremont, CA, which gave the band an incredibly professional and heavy sound that caught the attention of guitarist Neal Engelhaupt, himself a veteran of many South Bay metalcore bands. After one audition, the band knew he would become the new second guitarist, and the attention now went to finding that perfect singer to complete the group, as well as writing more instrumental tracks and further honing the band’s sound. After a LONG search with several missteps, the band found it’s ideal front man in Nicolai Rodney, a native of Sacramento who had recently relocated to pursue a dream of being a musician.

After completing the four-song “The Love, Fire, Defense EP”, the band immediately began booking shows like crazy in an effort to hit the ground running, and has already logged stage hours at some of the bay area’s best clubs and venues. The band is already gearing up for its sophomore EP and is building a steady following that likes their music not only heavy, but also fun and rockin’. They are also already fielding offers for their first tours, and is anticipating being on the road no later than summer.

Armed with a steady lineup, fun touring nature, and an EP that is already receiving accolade from all over – and not to mention a new tour van nicknamed “Ginger” – Mirros wants to come to your town to show you that heavy rock doesn’t always mean angry attitudes and an aggressive demeanor. Sometimes a band just loves to play out and wants to get out there and have a great time. Look for us on the road!
