Red Hot Chili Peppers To Reunite in October

Category: Blog, News · 0

According to a Billboard story, Chad Smith has confirmed that he and the boys from the Red Hot Chili Peppers will be getting together this October to start jamming and trying to come up with some new material.

Smith, who has been busy recently with the All-Star band Chickenfoot, as well as with an instrumental side project called Bombastic Meatbats, said that the original plan was to take a year off after their successful tour in support of Stadium Arcadium, but he and the rest of the guys were enjoying the time off, so they extended it.

“Everybody was like, ‘Y’know, I really like having this time off, not being a Chili Pepper and doing other things…It’ll be two years in September, so now we’re ready. You can’t force people to play when they don’t want to play or aren’t ready to play or whatever — not in our band, anyway.”

The reunion may put a bit of a crimp in his work with Chickenfoot, but Smith says that the rest of the guys in the band have said that they will work around his schedule.

They filmed the video for the lead single “Headcrusher” on July 28th, featuring a “Gladiator’-meets-UFC-meets-inside-of-Dave-Mustaine’s-brain.” of theme for the video.

According to Mustaine, this is the best record the band has put out in some time. “This new album is my proudest moment since the famous (or infamous) Rust in Peace album. With this album, I am also very excited to be introducing my new lead guitarist, Chris Broderick, to the world. I have always felt lucky to have had top shredders in that position, but after touring with Chris in support of my last album, I couldn’t wait to get into the studio and see what he could do.”

John Oates’ Mustache Gets Own Online Animated Show

Category: Blog · 0

Many of us have known and loved the musical stylings of one Daryl Hall and John Oates for many many years. Who doesn’t remember the first time that they heard “You Make My Dreams,”  grooved out to “Private Eyes,” or sang along to “Maneater.”

Well over the years the duo have gone through some changes. None as large as the day that John Oates shaved off his mighty, mighty mustache. Now you might wonder what ever happened to lovely lock of upper-lip hair. Did it just go down the drain?

Well fear not, you can find out the answers for yourself, in the animated show over at Funny or Die called J*Stache. The jist of the show is that John Oates is a family man talked back into the business buy his mustache (voiced by Dave Attell). The mustache also has it’s own blog over at jstache.com.

Now knowing the sort of stuff that normally winds up over at Funny or Die, you might think that this is another great bit of parody. If you do, then you would be wrong. This is an actual official project put together by Primary Wave Music Publishing, which holds a majority stake in the Hall & Oates music catalog. They thought that this might be a great way to get Hall & Oates music in front of a newer audience that may have never heard their music before.

“One of the motivations is to find another avenue to expose the catalogue to a younger generation and a whole new group of people who might not necessarily be completely aware of the depth and breadth of Hall and Oates,” he said. “It was a way we thought we could really get into the catalogue in a cool, new approach to exposing the catalogue to a whole new audience.”

Primary Wave is in talks with several networks to see if there is an interest in broadcasting the show on TV. I for one hope that they do, because if it is anywhere as cool as the above trailer, then I’m sold.

JUDAS PRIEST’S UPCOMING SOUTHERN FLORIDA SHOW WILL BE FILMED FOR A LIVE DVD

Category: Blog, News, On Tour · 0

It is hard to pinpoint when heavy metal history is going to be made. However, an upcoming event will surely be one of the few times you know for sure that it will. Judas Priest will be filming their upcoming August 17th performance at the Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, FL, for a DVD that will be included in a forthcoming expanded 30th Anniversary edition of their 1980 classic, British Steel. As with all of their U.S. summer dates this year, Priest has been performing the album in its entirety from front to back. With the band playing the entire British Steel repertoire, the August 17th show at the Seminole Hard Rock Arena in Hollywood, Florida (which will be one of the last of this US Summer 09 tour) will surely capture Priest at their peak!!  Not to be missed!!

Judas Priest

Judas Priest

British Steel has long been considered one of metal’s all-time classics. It was with this release that Priest truly broke through to the masses, with a pair of tracks that have become fixtures on rock radio – the enduring anthems Breaking the Law and Living After Midnight. But like all classic albums, there is not a single weak track detected on British Steel, as evidenced by such standouts as the perennial concert highlight, Metal Gods, as well as Rapid Fire, Grinder, United, and The Rage, among others.

Produced by Tom Allom, British Steel was recorded at Tittenhurst Park in England – which is a mansion owned at the time by former Beatle Ringo Starr, and previously owned by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. In 2001, the album was remastered and reissued with extra bonus tracks, and also, was the subject of an in-depth study as part of the popular Classic Albums DVD series.
